We are hiring Seasonal Workers for late-May through early-June.
A great part-time job lasting a few weeks with good pay at the end. Perfect timing for college students, as the season usually starts as soon as college ends and lasts only a few weeks. This allows you to work a few weeks straight, end up with a good paycheck and still have the rest of the summer for an internship or other opportunities. We welcome high school students too, for after-school hours and weekends.
The season is usually three weeks, but it can be two to four weeks. You will be working outside harvesting flowers and in a barn bunching flowers. Peony harvest is a short, hectic season. It starts about May 25th and lasts ten days to three weeks. It is weather dependent, hot weather speeds up the harvest, cool weather extends it.
The two main tasks are harvesting and bunching. Harvesting is not heavy work but requires bending to cut the stems. They go into a cart pulled by a tractor, then go up to the barn. There, another team strips off the lower leaves, sorts, bunches them and gets them in the cooler. It is not hard work, but you need to work quickly & steadily, and will be on your feet. You might be asked to sell at the farmstand.
We work in all weather conditions, so you should be comfortable working outside. (Which is an advantage in this time of Covid.)
We start early and end at dusk. We like to have early & late shifts so the two teams overlap during the middle of the day. Lunch is a paid break.
No previous experience is required and you will get on the job training. You will need to bring food, a water bottle and we strongly recommend sunblock and a hat. There is good fresh well water, refrigeration for lunch, electric kettle and we have a clean port-a-potty for the season.
We pay well, $13 to $16 an hour. We would like to have a minimum of 8 hours in a shift, but many work longer so they can make good money quickly.
We will follow Covid protocols for May and June.
